DAN DAN SHOKU FESTA (Food Festival)

Jan 29th (Sat)  – Feb 28th (Mon)

It’s that time of the year again! Throughout February there will be many food related events

on around the city – here are the food markets dates.

Feb 6th (Sun) 11:00 – 3:00

The stalls will be around the Tenjin area. (Head to Lake Shinji from the station -  can’t miss it).

Feb 13th (Sun) 11:00 – 3:00

This time they will be around the Karakoro Art Studio on the north side of Matsue. (Just over Ohashi Bridge)

IRISH FESTIVAL (March 13th, 11:00am – 3:00pm)

The annual Irish Festival will be held around the Karakoro-kobo area on the north side of Matsue. The parade will leave from Karakoro-kobo at 12 noon, while the water parade will be setting sail a little earlier at 11. There will be concerts and performances throughout the day and the pub will be open on March 12th/13th at night.

MATSUE CASTLE FESTIVAL (March 19th – April 15th)

It’s cherry blossom viewing time! The castle grounds will be open until 9:00pm, and there will be concerts and other events at the weekend for the duration of the festival.

MATSUE HISTORY MUSEUM

The Matsue History Museum will be opening on March 19th. There will be various performances etc. around the castle area throughout the day. More info to follow.

(The museum is to the east of the castle near the moat.)

DAFFODIL FESTIVAL ~April 10th

The Matsue English Garden alongside Lake Shinji is currently holding a Daffodil Festival.

The following events are also on this month at the garden:

String quartet concerts – April 9th (Sat) 1. 12:00pm, 2. 2:00pm. (Free entry)

‘Joyful’ Concert (keyboard, vocals, accordion, violin) – April 10th (Sun) 1. 12:00pm, 2. 2:00pm. (Free entry)

The 11th Japan Flute Festival in Matsue – April 24th (Sun) 2:00pm

There will be performances from professional players and also ensembles from schools and a flute orchestra.

Venue: Matsue Concert Hall (Plover Hall). Head towards route 9 from Saty. Cross over route 9 and it is just on your left.

Admission: 1,500 yen

ROSE FESTIVAL – The roses will be in bloom at the English Garden from May 21st to June 5th.

WORLD I-GO AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS – (Kenmin-kaikan near Shimane Pref. Office) May 29th

TENJIN SUMMER FESTIVAL July 24th/25th (Sun/Mon)

The festival will be in the area around Tenjin Shrine near Matsue Station. The streets will be closed off to traffic on the evenings of 24th/25th and lined with food and beer stalls, and there will be events on around the area.

MATSUE SUIGO-SAI FIREWORK FESTIVAL  August 6th and 7th.

The annual firework festival is a little later than usual. The fireworks display over the lake will be from 8:00pm – 8:30pm on Saturday the 6th and from 8:00pm – 9pm on Sunday the 7th.

MATSUE LANTERN FESTIVAL – The area around the castle will be lit up until around 9:30pm every Sat/Sun/National Holiday between Sept 17th – Oct 16th

MATSUE TEA CEREMONY FESTIVAL at Matsue Castle – October 1st and 2nd

MATSUE DRUM FESTIVAL – October 16th (Sun)

MATSUE LANTERN FESTIVAL – The area around the castle will be lit up until around 9:30pm every Sat/Sun/National Holiday between Sept 17th – Oct 16th

November 12 – 30th

Yushien Japanese Garden on Daikon Island (Yatsuka-cho, Matsue) is holding its annual

illuminations event. The gardens will be lit up from 5:30 to 9:00pm. You can get an idea of what it looks like from the

Vogel Park in Matsue will is getting all Christmassy with its illumination festival.  It will be all lit up and pretty on Dec 3rd, 10th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, and 25th, from 6-9pm!
